Some text for blind people

Free Music: The Notorious XX

The Notorious XX, a mash-up album by producer Wait What joining the rapping of The Notorious B.I.G. with the icy tunes of The XX, is now available as a free download.

According to Wait What,
“The marriage, if you can call it that — and really, you can’t, given that it’s about 43 minutes long, so he’s more
aiming for a really solid connection between two people just trying to feel something — is admittedly unorthodox.
Biggie’s music can make anyone at the club feel like they’re a rapper, and gets a dance floor going at most any
party, whereas The xx are mostly consumed in iPod earbuds on public transit, sitting in isolation at home, or driving
alone — in many ways, the combination of the two is the extrovert meets the introvert.”

Video: Janelle Monae Walks “Tightrope” With Big Boi (AKA Sir Lucious Left Foot)

Janelle Monae is finally getting around to releasing a full length album, “The Archandroid,” on May 18th. Monae’s a hard artist to pin down, sometimes (such as her new single “Tightrope” below) rocking like an female Andre 3000 fronted Jackson 5 while injecting elements of science fiction and cyber-punk into some of her songs that would make Philip K. Dick get his groove on. Check out “Tightrope,” and pick up “The Archandroid” on May 18th so you can be the one who told your friends about her first before she blows up.

We Were Skeletons Signs With Topshelf Records

Topshelf Records has picked up We Were Skeletons, a Pennsylvania band who plays a oddly melodic form of old school screamo. Fans of pg.99, Give Up the Ghost, or the idea of Minus the Bear writing songs with either of those bands should probably check them out. Topshelf has a good track record with hardcore bands, having originally discovered Defeater (now on Bridge 9) and recently picking up Pianos Become the Teeth.

Alkaline Trio covers Archers of Loaf

As part of The A.V. Club’s “Undercover” series, Alkaline Trio have released a video cover of Archers of Loaf’s classic “Web in Front.” The Undercover series will eventually comprise 25 current artists covering one of 25 songs of the artist’s choice. Prior episodes have included Ted Leo and Fruit Bats covering Tears for Fears and Hall & Oates, respectively.

Vinyl Collective Co-Op To Release Pre-Gaslight Anthem Band This Charming Man’s Sole Record

The Vinyl Collective Co-Op, a collection of record collectors who have invested as a group to release albums, is readying their fourth release. Fans of The Gaslight Anthem will be excited to hear This Charming Man, Gaslight singer Brian Fallon’s band before Gaslight Anthem, will finally see a vinyl pressing of their EP “Every Little Secret.” A release date has not been announced.

Rolling Stones Release Unheard “Exile” Tracks

If there’s one album for which I am an unabashed fanboy, it’s The Rolling Stones’ 1972 classic, “Exile on Main Street.” Aside from being one of the most heralded rock albums of all time, it’s also a double album, of which every track is flat out perfect. If you’ve ever listened to “Exile” and thought, “Eighteen tracks is OK, but I could really use a few more,” you’d sound kinda greedy, but you wouldn’t be out of luck.

On May 18th, Universal will release the deluxe version of “Exile”, complete with 10 extra, never-before-heard tracks and alternate versions of “Soul Survivor” and “Loving Cup”. There will also be a super-deluxe version with a 64-page booklet, 4 postcards, and a DVD compilation of Stones performances.

Hell yes.
