Le Tigre are looking for a summer intern to help them with the release of an upcoming DVD.
Advertising for the role on her blog, Kathleen Hannah, the group’s frontwomen explained that their “dream applicant would be self motivated, organized, good at social networking and have their own computer”.
Taking place in New York between June and August, the successful candidate will be “doing internet research, web maintenance and odd jobs related to our upcoming DVD release”.
To apply for the role or for more information, email LeTigreInternship@gmail.com.
The line-up for the 5th Annual This Is Hardcore Fest to be held in Philadelphia, PA has been announced. Among the groups scheduled to perform: Sheer Terror, Cro Mags, Death Before Dishonor, Blacklisted, Touche Amore, Bane, and many, many more.
The most notable are two bands reuniting for the fest: Kid Dynamite and Ink And Dagger. Yes, you read right. You’re probably wondering how Ink And Dagger will perform if singer Sean McCabe passed away in 2000? In a lengthy post on the B9 Boards, Joe Hardcore writes that the band “recruited Geoff Rickly of Thursday who is a longtime fan of Ink & Dagger to front the band.”

Paper + Plastick Records has announced that they are partnering with some of the biggest names in modern punk rock to collaborate on a series of 7″ splits. For the vinyl nerd in all of us, there will be exclusive artwork, special b-side etchings, and a choice of multi-coloured vinyl options. The first release in the series, released on Tuesday features a brand new track from Anti-Flag entitled Queens and Kings (white or rainbow vinyl). Also available is Jonxer b/w Get Up and Go (Root Beer or Violet vinyl) from St. Alvia.
Head of P+P, Vinnie Fiorello of Less Then Jake, explains his reasoning behind the releases and relationship with the vinyl record, “Out of all the formats of vinyl, I have the most love for the 7” record. This was the easiest way to get to know a band when I was getting into punk music. It was a trophy, and a badge of honor. If you were in a band and had a 7” record coming out, you felt like you made it”
Bands on deck for the rest of the summer include The Ataris and Weatherbox. A shortlist of the announced bands and release dates can be found below.

In the wake of Bono’s recent and emergency back surgery, U2 have been forced to cancel their entire run of summer dates including a much anticipated performance at England’s Legendary Glastonbury festival. In a statement from friend and manager Paul McGuinness,
“Our biggest and I believe best tour has been interrupted and we’re all devastated. For a performer who lives to be on stage, this is more than a blow. He feels robbed of the chance to do what he does best and feels like he has badly let down the band and their audience. Which is of course nonsense. His concerns about more than a million ticket buyers whose plans have been turned upside down, we all share, but the most important thing right now is that Bono make (sic) a full recovery. We’re working as fast as we can with Live Nation to reschedule these dates.”
It is anticipated that the band will reschedule these dates for the same time next year. No word yet on who has been tapped to headline Glasto this year in their place.
The Wonder Years have signed with Hopeless Records and released the following statement on the signing.
“Hopeless was the right choice for us. We’ve never been concerned with sounding like the other bands on a label. I mean, when we signed with No Sleep there were two other bands on the label. One sounded like Botch and the other sounded like Modest Mouse. For us, it’s more important that a label gets us and what we want to do and after a ton of meetings with Hopeless, we know that it’s the right home for us. The roster is small and so we know we won’t get lost in the mix. The staff members are hard working and super nice. We respect all of the charity work the label does and are excited to be a part of a label that has such an interest in helping people. Hopeless has an amazing back catalog full of some of my all-time favorite records and we’re really honored to have the chance to even be mentioned in the same breath as some of their bands.”
It’s hard to argue with that logic. We at The 1st Five are just happy to see Hopeless sign a fast pop punk band again. The Wonder Years released The Upsides earlier this year via No Sleep Records.
On the heels of their tour (and stolen equipment mishap) with Coheed and Cambria, Torche will hit the road on small headlining tour. Beings will be joining them on this jaunt.

On July 14, Hydra Head Records will drop the long-awaited ISIS/Melvins 12″ and Torche/Boris vinyl splits on us.
The ISIS side of their split is comprised of two songs said to be their last recorded prior to their recently-announced amicable split. The Melvins songs are re-constructed tracks from their newly-released The Bride Screamed Murder album. Even though it will not hit stores until 7/14, the split will be available during both bands’ current tour right now.
In typical Hydra Head fashion, they have written out a “bio” for both releases.
Scranton, PA’s Tigers Jaw will be hitting the road for a U.S. summer tour. The Sidekicks will join them on the first portion of the tour. Also joining them will Man Overboard.

*This release comes in two versions, DVD or CD. Each has some exclusive material. This review is only of the CD version of the release.*
There’s a good chance that your feelings about David Cross are governed by whether or not you agree with his politics. If you’re the kind of person who, like Cross, feels that we have a moral imperative as a civilized country to provide health care for our citizens then you’re probably going to love hearing him rail against The Tea Party. If, on the other hand, you’re the kind of person who thinks that Obama is a muslim/nazi/zombie then let me do you a favor and suggest that you never, ever, ever pick up any of Cross’ albums. They openly bait people who disagree with him, and you‘re just going to end up writing him a letter that he‘ll read while getting high and laughing at you. In a lot of ways he’s like a Beck, O’Reilly, or Olbermann, except that he’s a comedian and they’re “journalists.”
