As we previously reported back in July (here), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails, How To Destroy Angels) and Atticus Ross were working together to score the new David Fincher movie, The Social Network. The folks over at the OneThirtyBPM site are giving us the first taste of the score with the track “Hand Covers Bruise (no piano)”. The track itself is “minimal” and definitely brings an element of darkness. How it will fit into the film is anyone’s guess. Follow the link here to listen.
While you’re there, also check out a new Nine Inch Nails song (the first studio recording in two years) recorded for the Shinya Tsukamoto film, Tetsuo: The Bullet Man. The song is set to play during the film’s closing credits. Go here to listen. If you’re not familiar with the Tetsuo film series, read up on it and watch them. Especially if you are a fan of Japanese science-fiction/horror films.
Garage punk powerhouse Douchemaster Records has just hit a grand slam. They’ve just posted three new 7″s from three of the best in the game today. Everyone’s favourite vagrant Leporidae, Nobunny, Ex-Carbonas bassist Gentlemen Jesse (And His Men), and Ex-Black And Whites frontman Talbot Adams. I’m not familiar with the latter, but Douchemaster is one of the the best labels that no one seems to talk about. They release some of the best bands in the scene regularly, and they all come highly recommended from me.
A sample mp3 from each 7″, the records, and their limited (and probably already sold out) coloured vinyl counterparts are available for purchase via the Douchemaster blog.
Indie/pop hybrid act Matt And Kim have a new record coming out on November 2nd, 2010, entitled “Sidewalks”. Today however, August 31st, 2010, they have release the first single from “Sidewalks”. The single is entitled “Cameras”, and can be found right over here. The song is also available as a digital download, via iTunes.

Criminally underrated emo act Valencia will be dropping their next album, Dancing With A Ghost, on Oct. 12th. To rant quickly about this band, so far they’ve released two albums and an EP of some of the highest quality music the modern emo scene has ever produced.
If you were to go back in time with these three releases and give them to Vagrant Records circa 2000 (you know, back when kids actually bought the records) Valencia probably would have had their lyrics scrawled along side The Get Up Kids‘ and Saves the Day‘s on your note book. These guys write hopeful music born from some truly dark places, and Dancing With A Ghost is one of my most anticipated records of the year. Continue reading below the teaser video for the track listing.
Punk rock lifers Bad Religion are coming out with their 15th full length record this Septemeber, entitled The Dissent Of Man. The record is coming out of guitarists Brett Gurewitz’s label, Epitaph Records. The band has just posted the second single from the record “The Resist Stance” can be streamed over at the bands Myspace profile.
Check out the song here.

Doug Benson’s new comedy album, Hypocritical Oaf hits stores this week. Today, it’s also a special on Amazon.com where you can pick up a digital download of the album for only $3.99. So today you can choose between a sugar Latte that will make you feel like crap, or a comedy album that will make you laugh.
And probably, given Benson‘s pot fetish, make you want to smoke a joint. But hey no diabetes for your four bucks. If Hypocritical Oaf is half as good as the set I witnessed from Benson last month you’ll end the day in tears of joy. For once. Pick up Hypocritical Oaf.
Forget for a moment that this song sounds vaguely like a revamp of “the Beautiful People” for kids who don’t cut themselves and just let the insidious groove of the track take you away. Does It Offend You, Yeah have a lack of pretension to their dance rock that’s refreshing. The simple complexity of their tracks is almost punk in execution, but defiantly is in spirit.

Paul Baribeau
Unbearable
Self Released CD/Vinyl on No Idea Records
Paul Baribeau is a man. More importantly, Paul Baribeau is a human being. A human being who knows how to take what all humans see, feel, hear and think, and turn them into the simplest words. These simple words are then put over simple chords; simple words and simple chords that form emotionally complex, heart felt folk songs. Paul’s newest effort, Unbearable (believe me, the connotations the title gives don’t travel far), is his third full length, and first in collaboration with Gainesville, Florida based No Idea Records*.
