Stand Up Comic Greg Giraldo died Wednesday of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. The comedian spent the summer as a judge on NBC’s Last Comic Standing. According to the New York Times Giraldo was hospitalized Saturday night after “he was found unconscious in a hotel room in New Brunswick, where he was scheduled to perform at a club.” Giraldo often spoke of his past alcoholism, proud of his sobriety and honest about his slip ups. His acidic wit, raw openness, and brutal honesty will be missed.
Deathwish Inc. have unveiled info on the upcoming new release from California’s Killing The Dream. The new album titled Lucky Me, will be the band’s third release under the Deathwish Inc. label. and is set to be out on November 23rd. The official release info:
“California’s Killing The Dream are an inspiring and passionate hardcore band. Embodying the same positive emotion found in contemporaries Comeback Kid and Bane, Killing The Dream‘s approach is the definition of hardcore power. Making even the most jaded of listeners appreciate and praise them as their new hardcore heroes in the making.
After releasing a fantastic 7″EP/CD on Rivalry in 2004, Killing The Dream made Deathwish their new label home. In 2005, the band released their “I Rewrote It” 7″EP on Deathwish to praise from hardcore kids everywhere. In early 2005, Killing The Dream travelled to Godcity Studios to record their “In Place Apart” album with Kurt Ballou (Converge). The album was declared “The best hardcore album of the year” by Alternative Press Magazine. And in 2008, Killing The Dream released “Fractures”, a stunning 12 song album recorded by J. Robbins (Jawbox), that solidified the band’s place at the very top of today’s hardcore community.
Since then, Killing The Dream have been hard at work on their newest effort, “Lucky Me”.
Recorded by Zach Ohren and Pat Hills, “Lucky Me” shows Killing The Dream in the grips of true artistic progression. With “Lucky Me”, Killing The Dream have taken their formulaic metallic hardcore approach and evolved within it. Injecting hook laden melodies deep in their core that bring new dimension and depth to an already impressive sound. “Lucky Me” shows that a band can grow within, without having to leave themselves or their audience, behind.”

Against Me! has announced via their Facebook that they have cancelled all remaining tour plans for 2010 “due to unforseen circumstances”. No details given. The band had planned to go out on the road in the U.K. and Europe with Fucked Up and Crazy Arm and an Australian jaunt with An Horse.
Drag the River might be bad at breaking up but they’re absolutely unbelievable at writing old school country songs that’ll break your heart and fill your beer with tears. Hit up one of the whiskey soaked sing-a-long sessions as the boys play a few brief East Coast dates before heading out on a European jaunt with Austin Lucas (voice of an angel) and Cory Branan (this generations most important unknown singer songwriter). Continue reading for the dates.

Tim Kasher of Cursive fame has written a solo album called The Game of Monogamy that’s coming out October 5th. This is the first video from that album, a lovely song about how sex in long term relationships can become somewhat “eh” after while. You can read more of Kasher’s thoughts on the song and it’s video over at Spinner. In fact your probably should go read his thoughts on the matter. After all he put them together for you.
