In accordance with our trend of birthday wishes today, Suburban Home Records has released a “best of” sampler. While the anniversary concert has passed, the sampler and tracklist can be found here.
Whether you made it out for Suburban Home Records 15th Anniversary Weekend or not, you can now enjoy some of the best moments of the weekend wherever you happen to reside. Our good friend James Freeman (of That’s The Thing About That) has been so kind to record the entire 15th Anniversary weekend and share his favorite performances with all of you. Visit the link above and you can download 22 tracks (2 tracks of each of 11 artists who performed over the weekend). I highly recommend you download and listen to these recordings. Alongside tracks you are more than likely familiar with, there are a number of cover songs you can’t get anywhere else. Rob Coe covers The Dead Boys, Micah Schnabel covers Alkaline Trio, Lizzie Huffman covers Ryan Adams, and Two Cow Garage covers Neil Young.
While Devo were forced to cancel all their remaining tour dates, Descendents have stepped in to pick up their spot at Fun Fun Fun Fest next weekend in Austin, Texas. Along with a string of dates in Australia, this marks the bands only live appearances in 2010. The members of the band have been consistently putting out material with side projects, but the band themselves haven’t been active since 2004′s Cool To Be You. They play Sunday evening in the headlining spot on the orange stage.

Internet storefront, tradelist, and auction site Limited Pressing are celebrating their very first birthday. To celebrate, they’ve announced that three new labels will be exclusively distributed through their storefront, among a number of other announcements to come out later this week.
We have a couple of really cool announcements coming next week but for now we’re going to get you primed with something free from Suburban Home Records. As you may know Suburban Home recently had their own anniversary. They’ve been around a couple more years than us mind you… 14 years longer. That’s correct, this is Suburban Home’s 15th Anniversary! Damn that’s a long time. Well in honor of their 15th year in the independent music industry they had a weekend full of bands lined up to play. Not only that but Suburban Home’s friend James
Freeman, and his savant like recording skills, made a “Best Of” Mix and it’s available now for free in their webstore.
Mystic Records have confirmed that their storage warehouse partially burnt down last night, destroying thousands of dollars in merchandise. While the labeled suffered what could be a deathblow to most labels in the music climate today, they’re oddly optimistic.
There’s always an upside! No one was hurt, and your Mystic records are now more valuable than ever. Hold onto what you’ve got!
Rarer than Ever: There were 500 pressed on the first three white records, Mentors, Nardcore, and Battalion of Saints. The fire destroyed most of inventory of these records, and we have only a few of each left. For collectors, this means that there are now less than 400 of these white records in existence. The same is true for Il Repute and Dr. Know, which were made in gold and green

The Ladies
Six More Reasons To Hate
Gravemistake Records
The Ladies newest release, Six More Reasons To Hate is quite the enigma. While I’ve never seen so much propaganda and provocative material pumped into such a small package; I’m very impressed. From the album art, a depiction of S&M Nazi’s, to lyrics themselves, there’s a lot to take in here. Yet at no point does anything about the music or packaging ever seem serious, largely due to the brevity and snot of these upstart punk tunes.
While the overall tone of the songs is notably dark, ranging from self-mutilation to deceased parents, the feel of them is oddly upbeat. From the obvious Dwarves influence (mostly contained in the packaging, but an audible amount remains) to the various other early 90’s punk ode, The Ladies are doing something that most bands would never try. Even better, they’re getting away with it. While the current movement of punk rock is largely obsessed with respect and political correctness, it’s almost warming to know that there’s someone out there stirring the pot. Perhaps The Ladies could act as a catalyst to something larger, or maybe there’s just a stark sense of satire present that I’m just not picking up on (that would explain the self reflexive title).
While there is a significant population in music interested in creating posi-spaces and ventures, there is just as significant population who are just interested in hearing (mostly) thoughtless punk rock blast by them as fast as possible. That’s where The Ladies are most relevant. Churning out six songs in under six minutes, these songs are largely carried by their buzzsaw guitars and catchy sing a longs. These melodies mask much of the grime and sleaze, not only are they still there, but they’re going to linger with you long after you finish this record.
It seems after the release of the Simple Science EP the recently reunited Get Up Kids have gotten their creative juices running long enough to record a new album. There Are Rules, the band’s first album since Guilt Show was released seven years ago, if be self-released by the band on January 25th.
In an interesting turn the album is being mastered by Bob Weston who handled the recording of the band’s debut Four Minute Mile, with long time producer Ed Rose handling the main production.
Here’s the track listing. For the complete press release for the album continue reading below the fold.

Earlier this year Deftones released Diamond Eyes, which is easily the band’s best work since 2000s White Pony. Now, just in time for Halloween, the band have released their video for “You’ve Seen The Butcher” and boy is it is a gory mess.
Granted, it does feature tons of beautiful men and women in various states of undress dancing slowly and covered with sweat. Plus, cryptic images of the band playing in what can only be described as a haunted library. So, basically this video is three minutes and thirty seconds of everything that makes Halloween awesome.
Enjoy.

While news that A Perfect Circle reforming still has many excited, the band hasn’t stopped to take a breath. They recently performed their song “Weak And Powerless” on Jimmy Kimmel. The song was previously released on their 2003 full length, Thirteenth Step, and marks the reunited bands first live appearance. The newly reformed band features frontman Maynard Keenan, former Smashing Pumpkin James Iha, Matt McJunkins, and the overworked Josh Freese. You can watch the video below.
Brett from The Riot Before recently stopped by the The Punkyard to record some acoustic takes of the band’s songs “The Oregon Trail“, and “To Live How We Believe“. Continue reading to check out the songs.
