Everyone’s favourite young pop-punks have officially gone international (or well, global). Japan based Ice Grill$ records has announced their plans to release both of Such Gold‘s EPs Stand Tall and Pedestals on a single collection CD in 2011. The release date currently sits at January 19th, and will be followed by a tour through the country with Cleave.

Thank you for reading this year. Here are the 16 records, 5 comedy albums, and 3 comic book series that stood out to me in 2010.
End of the year 2010:
16. Get Rad What The Fuck Happened To Common Sense
There wasn’t a better old school hardcore album that came out this year. Bonus points for the hysterical dig at Green Day ripping off of Dillinger Four’s “Doublewhiskeycokenoice,” but the piss and bile of the smart ass lyrics was at its best when the band took on social ills and stupid kids. Plus a dollar from each sale goes to the Grind for Life charity in the name of Matt Arluck, the Sweet Cobra guitar player who tragically passed away this year after a battle with cancer. If you wish more hardcore bands sounded like what hardcore bands used to sound like you can’t go wrong with Get Rad.

#1. The Tallest Man On Earth
The Wild Hunt
Dead Oceans Records
10 tracks of the absolute best Americana coming out of Sweden (whatever that means). The Tallest Man On Earth has released his best material to date, including one of my favourite record closers of all time, “Kids On The Run”.

1. Deafheaven
Demo
Self Released
This band took me by surprise. I only heard of them when they signed to Deathwish Inc. Their demo is a cross-genre mix of Black Metal, Doom, Hardcore, and aggressiveness. Can’t wait for their full-length out next year.

Emarosa
Emarosa
Rise Records
With a debut as solid as Relativity, Emarosa almost certainly doomed themselves to follow with a sophomore slump. The self-titled album that followed, however, found room for improvement and rose to the occasion flawlessly. Vocalist Jonny Craig’s unmistakable voice has never felt more at home, and the band has never sounded so complete. Impassioned yet controlled, Emarosa harvests all of the band’s strengths without so much as a sign of any weaknesses.

Deftones
Diamond Eyes
Record Label: Reprise
In the face of Deftones’ current situation with Chi, I’m surprised that this record even came out this year. This was, what, the third incarnation of the follow up to Saturday Night Wrist? The eleven tracks on Diamond Eyes, to me, made a complete and cohesive package. The first time I heard this record, I thought that they had lost their edge. The second time through, though, gave me a chance to really digest it and I got it. I mean…I got it. Diamond Eyes is intense. Chino really lays his soul on the table and as a result, we have an emotionally intense, incredibly sexy record that, I can only imagine, is as cathartic for him as it is for the listener.
