Last month, we introduced you to a band from the UK called Young Legionnaire. This morning, the band released heir first official single from Crisis Works entitled Numbers. Directed by Justin and James Lockey, the video encompasses everything about the band’s sound in just under three and a half minutes. Bassist Gordon Moakes says of the album, “The album is about noise, volume, being heavy and being loud. (We wanted) To make a big, juddering noise but weave a trail of melody through it. Even though the format of guitar, bass, drums and vocal is established, is nothing ground-breaking, the possibilities are endless. There’s always another riff to write, a heavier sound to find. And we’re looking for the magic in the gaps between the riffs too. There’s a tenderness to it, a fragility almost, that we stumbled upon, and I’m inspired by that, to discover that. The record is about the brutal, the fragile and the possible.”
The band have a handful of shows coming up, though none in the US…yet [hopefully soon!] including a date with SXSW rabble rousers Death From Above 1979 and a stint on the infamous Camden Crawl. Full dates are after the jump. You can download the Track Chapter,Verse for free here. In the mean time, enjoy Numbers:
Last we heard, PG. 99 reuniting for Best Friends Day 10 on August 18th-21st was awesome news. Well, that’s still pretty awesome, but so is the rest of the festival’s lineup. Friday’s show headliners have been confirmed as Converge, PG. 99, and Strike Anywhere, but the rest of the schedule is yet to be confirmed. However, the festival is touting a hefty list of bands who will make an appearance somewhere during the festival, such as Against Me!, 7 Seconds, Corrosion of Conformity (with their Animosity lineup), Off With Their Heads, Screaming Females, Dear Landlord, Capsule and many, many more.
Tickets for the friday show (confirmed as Converge, PG. 99 & Strike Anywhere) can be purchased right here for $20.

By now were all familiar with the recent controversy surrounding Ben Weasel (If you’re not, check out the rising action/the climax and the falling action. You’re looking at the resolution). The iconic punkrock frontman had a three-day festival to celebrate Screeching Weasel‘s 25th anniversary in May booked and promoted, but after the event at SXSW this year a stream of bands started to drop off the festival for both political and personal reasons.
As of this morning, the venue the festival was to take part in, Reggie’s in Chicago, has officially announced the festival as cancelled. While the entire event will not occur, the venue has stated that they have plans to reschedule some of the bands booked to appear.
In an exclusive article Exclaim! reports via an interview with sole Little Girls member Josh McIntyre that the post-punk project will have a new EP out soon, “most likely in June.” The seven-song Cults EP will be released on Hand Drawn Dracula Records, marking McIntyre’s split from previous label Paper Bag Records.
The Exclaim! article also reveals Little Girls is working on a follow-up to 2009 full-length Concepts. However, unlike all other Little Girls studio work, this album will include a full backing band. That should be out in the fall.
Another goodie: the article links to a download for “Nights Out”, fresh stuff from the forthcoming EP. Now isn’t that all worth getting riled up about?
Here’s the Cults tracklist:
1. White Night
2. Cults
3. Ex
4. Daydream
5. Delaware
6. Nights Out
7. Nights Out (Guy Dallas Remix)
The Kills are streaming their new record Blood Pressures over at their website. The limited edition LP/CD/Digital Download is being released on Domino Records and doesn’t hit shelves/hard drives until this Monday, April 4.
Blood Pressures is the fourth studio album from the new-age dance punk duo, consisting of Alison Mosshart (formerly of Florida punk rockers Discount) and Jamie Hince (Scarfo, Blyth Power). Set to impress, the album is more heavy, dark hooks from the trend-setters many can’t avert their attention from.
You can also sign up at the same website for a free download of the tune “DNA” off the album.
Deathwish Inc. has made public full details pertaining to the much-anticipated new release from Touche Amore, Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me. Pretty exciting update and definitely looking forward to this album. Get stoked!
CD, LP, Deluxe LP, and Digital available June 7th, 2011
Touche Amore are a thought provoking, passionate hardcore/punk band from Los Angeles, California.
From the first strikes of their angular yet melodic chords, it’s apparent that Touche Amore have awoken something long forgotten in the hardcore/punk genre. Bringing to mind the balance of rage and melody that “Revolution Summer” era DC bands Rites of Spring and Ignition once carried. Within each song they build an awe inspiring musical tension while impassioned vocalist Jeremy Bolm’s shouts resonate, ripe with intellectual introspection. This collective outpouring of traditional hardcore anger and emotional hardcore openness ultimately coalesces into something beautiful, vulnerable, and refreshingly real.
Shortly after their formation in late 2007, Touché Amoré released their demo 7″EP on the No Sleep label. After touring the West Coast in support of that release, they recorded their debut album “…To the Beat of a Dead Horse” in early 2009. The album was co-released by the 6131 and Collect (Geoff from Thursday’s vinyl only imprint) record labels, and was praised by kids and press worldwide as one of the best releases of the year. Soon after, they hit the road with a wide variety of bands including Converge, Coalesce, Thursday, Envy, and more. On the heels of these travels, Touché Amoré even managed to release a number of EPs, including splits with friends La Dispute and Make Do And Mend.
Deathwish are proud to announce the release of Touche Amore’s latest album, “Parting the Sea Between Brightness and Me”.

Mike Burkett (aka Fat Mike) mentioned last night in an interview with Punk Radio Cast that he, as a lifelong fan of musicals, plans on writing one himself. While Fat Mike is known for his antics both on stage and off with NOFX (see Cokie The Clown, right), he insists that his future musical output would be entirely serious (I believe him, but I’m not entirely sure he could finish it without at least a couple of jokes!).
Few details are known about the project, but we’ll keep you updated as they become available.
A benefit record is being sold for $12 US right here in honour of legendary Maximum Rock N Roll columnist Bruce Roehrs, who passed last March, 2010. All proceeds go toward the Bruce Roehrs Memorial Fund, with hopes to have Roehrs memorialised in the San Francisco Columbarium.
The crossed hammer shaped record is pictured above in its various colours and designs. It is being produced in collaboration with Pirates Press Records, Longshot Music, and Maximum RNR. The 12″ split features two working class street-rock bands Roehrs definitely would have been proud of: Harrington Saints with the song “Claret & Blue” and Booze & Glory with “Swingin’ Fuckin’ Hammers”.
From the Pirates Press website:
To commemorate the passing of a hero & legend, one year later…
Pirates Press Records, Longshot Music, and Maximum Rock N Roll are very proud to offer this special chance to help our beloved friend Bruce Roehrs to be immortalized in San Francisco’s Columbarium, and be part of something that can hopefully continue to help effect music in the way Bruce did for decades.
The Columbarium is the ONE place in San Francisco proper allowed to be someone’s final resting place. There are no cemeteries in SF. This is a VERY special place, and a VERY special honor – truly one that a lot of us believe he deserves.
Roehrs began writing for Maximum RNR in the early eighties when he and founder Tim Yohannen kept bumping into each other at shows. He wrote for the magazine steadily and was known for giving smaller bands recognition.
Bruce loved the San Francisco Columbarium for its craftsmanship and beauty. He often took friends there to show them what he saw in it. It is where his memorial service was held on April 9, 2010.
