Daily WTF: Australian Neo-Nazis Set Sights On Propagandhi

This has just been brought to my attention, albeit a little after the fact. Australian based nationalist members of the forum Stormfront have channeled their thoughts towards Canadian punks Propagandhi. On one hand I already regret giving the hate group any press at all, but on the other hand Propagandhi are the one band that I would pinpoint not only to provoke, but to respond to such allegations.

Propagandhi have a tour of Australia booked this coming May, which caught the attention and disgust of a number of nationalists and white power activists over the “pro-gay, anti-nationalist, anarchist” lyrics of the band. Surprisingly enough the members of the Stormfront message board rely on a number of homophobic and racist tropes to ratify their proposed violence and protests of the band’s shows in Australia. The group go so far as to blame the band as being racist to the white race, and “deducing” the band’s popularity as a product of Jewish owned and operated record label Fat Wreck Chords (the product of Fat Mike (Nofx)).

Converge / Dropdead Split Release Details Announced

Deathwish Inc. and Converge have just announced details on the upcoming split release with Dropdead. Simply title Split, the recording, available as a 7″ EP and digital, will be brand new songs from Converge and Dropdead. The split will be self-released by both bands and available exclusively via Deathwish Inc. and The Armageddon Label.

A pairing of two legendary bands celebrating their joint twenty year history within the Punk/Hardcore genre.

Both songs were recorded at Kurt Ballou’s God City Studios in early 2011, and mastered by John Golden (Neurosis, Melvins, etc). “Runaway” from Converge is an instant classic for the band, unrelenting in its speed and emotional ferocity from beginning to end. While Dropdead’s “Paths of Glory” is an unforgettable political punk/hardcore anthem, that proves that the years behind the band have only strengthened their hold on the battlefront of the true underground.

Info on ordering will be announced shortly. We here at The 1st Five love all things Converge, so needless to say we’re pretty stoked for this!

Video: Titus Andronicus “No Future Part III: Escape From No Future”

Titus Andronicus‘ new video for “No Future Part III: Escape From No Future” is a love letter to their home state of New Jersey. Filmed while traveling around the state the band wanted to show a side of new Jersey, as vocalist Patrick Stickles states at the videos beginning, that you don’t see on TV. So great is the love of New Jersey in this video that the band worked with a number of NJ blogs to premiere it. You can see that list here or you can just watch the video below. Enjoy.

KYUSS Returns! Sorta

Legendary stoner metal group Kyuss are set to return to stages across the U.S. after a fifteen year absence. The highly-influential group formed in the late 80s and is considered one of the forefathers of the stoner/doom metal sound. The group disbanded in 1997 and core members Josh Homme and Nick Oliveri went on as Queens of the Stone Age. Talks and rumors of all original members reuniting would take place throughout the years after with nothing coming to fruition. In November 2010, a long-awaited reunion took place, sort of, with original members Nick Oliveri, Brant Bjork, and John Garcia getting back together under the Kyuss Lives! name. Josh Homme‘s position as guitarist was filled in by Bruno Fevery. A few shows were played as Kyuss Lives! in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

It has now been announced that the group will be playing two dates in the U.S. with more to be announced later for the fall. Most Kyuss purists will feel that it’s not a real reunion without Josh Homme. Start arguing.

Pearl Jam Offers Teaser For 20-Year Documentary

As we have mentioned a few times already, Pearl Jam is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year. The band has just offered up a short teaser of their upcoming Pearl Jam Twenty documentary being worked on with Cameron Crowe. It’s a bit of something to get the curiosity revved up for what promises to be a very insightful and personal documentation of the band’s 20-year history.

Fugazi Begin Archiving Their Entire Live History

(Post) Punk icons Fugazi are beginning the long process of archiving over 10 years of live performances on their website. The current plan is to launch their website with 100 live recordings, taken from DAT and cassettes among other formats, with an average of 20 more per month. No word on how much (or rather, how little) the band will be charging for each performance, but given Fugazi‘s persistent dedication to keeping costs low, I highly doubt it will be very much.
