Laura Stevenson and the Cans have post their video for “The Healthy One” off their recently released album Sit Resist. Sit Resist has been spending a lot of time on our stereos recently thanks to the band’s clever take on folky pop. Much like a Roald Dahl novel your initial introduction might leave you thinking this band is something overly sweet, before snaring you with compositions that are drastically more mature than you expect. This is a band to watch out for.
Editor’s Note: The name of the song is “The Healthy One” not “The Healthier One” as originally posted. Sorry for the typo.
Work In Shadows is a new label that may be of great interest to hardcore and metal fans. Run by Adam S., Work In Shadows focuses on relatively-unknown but hard-working bands in the hardcore punk and metal scenes. The label is also putting out releases by bands from its home state of North Carolina. A few releases are already lined up and the first that is available is Just Die!‘s A Momentary Lapse In Positive Thinking LP. Here’s a bio on the release:
North Carolina’s Just Die are back with another great offering to the Hardcore world. A Momentary Lapse In Positive Thinking digs even deeper into the chaos that is Just Die. Just Die have a great 80′s DC area Punk/Hardcore sound. AMLIPT is the 4th release from NC’s Just Die and is 10 tracks of short, fast, loud, and pissed off Hardcore the way it was meant to be played.
Next down the road for the WIS label is Low Places‘s Spiritual Treatment cassette. This is a co-release with A389 Records who are handling the vinyl version. if you like bands like Entombed and Cursed, then consider yourself a Low Places fan already.
If you’re interested and inclined in supporting a true DIY label putting out quality hardcore and metal releases, then head on over to the Work In Shadows webstore. They have a few more awesome releases in the works that we can’t tell you about just yet.

Fantômas, the eclectic supergroup featuring Mike Patton (Faith No More, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom), Buzz Osborne (Melvins), Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, MadLove) and Melvins’ drummer Dale Crover filling in for Dave Lombardo (Slayer), release The Director’s Cut Live: A New Year’s Revolution on DVD and as a standalone audio download on Sept. 6 via Ipecac Recordings.

Two songs featured on The Director’s Cut Live: A New Year’s Revolution were not in the original release of The Director’s Cut: Al Green’s “Simply Beautiful” and Marc Bolan & T. Rex’s “Chariot Choogle.”

This Time Next Year have announced the details of their second full length record, entitled Drop Out Of Life, which will be released 27th September via Equal Vision. Chad Gilbert, guitarist for the band New Found Glory, produced the record. Vinyl nerds can pick up the vinyl release via No Sleep Records later this year. Vocalist Pete Dowdalls hopes that fans are able to connect with this record through his heartbreak and struggles. He says, “Drop Out Of Life is our way of encouraging people to quit whatever brings them down in life and go find out what it is you love. If you hate something, why keep doing it? We’re not telling people to give up; we’re telling them to drop out. Life can be really tough but it’s up to you to make it better. Be positive, always look forward, and do what you want. I want people to vicariously live through the heartaches and triumphs I’ve experienced over the years. Drop Out Of Life is as much about the people who always supported us as it is about our personal struggles. This record is dedicated not only to our family, friends and fans, but to anyone out there who has felt defeated, broken or helpless in life. Stay positive, keep your friends close and do whatever it is you want to do in life. Forget acceptance, forget normality, drop out of life.”

Bomb The Music Industry!
Vacation
Really Records/Ernest Jenning Record Co.
With Vacation, Bomb The Music Industry!’s admitted Weezer fandom is finally audible. Vacation is the album that will attract new fans, win over detractors, and stimulate longtime fans. In other words, Vacation is Bomb The Music Industry!‘s best material to date. The band themselves are not new to concept records; with at least two full lengths recorded on band leader (and only constant member) Jeff Rosenstock’s iMac, and an album taking on the movement as a crescendo as a whole. On the surface a 45 minute record about the summer isn’t much of change of pace for the band, and perhaps that thought goes much deeper than just the surface, but for the first time in the band’s lengthy discography the main focus isn’t on Rosenstock’s untrained (yet ever so alluring) vocals or his at times whacky yet always personable writing. The majority of the listener’s focus is resting on on the band’s constantly lineup.

Good friends of mine Sam Coffey And The Iron Lungs recently stopped by Village Basement Sessions in New Jersey to record a live version of the song “Lose That Bitch”. If you’re not framiliar with Village Basement Sessions, it’s kind of similar to If You Make It’s Pink Couch Sessions, except only one of them has this awesome video. For fans of Thomas Function and Black Lips.
