Smashing Pumpkins head honcho Billy Corgan has launched the Smashing Pumpkins Record Club. It’s free to join and membership you will get you free demo tracks, archived rarities and more. It’s all pretty vague but that’s the mystery and excitement of the club. The club is live now and all you have to do is give up your email address to immediately get a download for an 8-track demo of “Drown” from 1992′s Singles soundtrack. The demo is longer and more layered than the original, not to mention being rawer.
Head on over to the Smashing Pumpkins official site to access and join and watch a video message from Corgan introducing you to the SPRC.
The Hold Steady recently covered Huey Lewis and the News‘ classic “Power of Love” for the Onion’s A.V. Club. You can enjoy their performance below.

It seems that it is true…Jack White (White Stripes, The Raconteurs, Dead Weather, etc.) is collaborating with Insane Clown Posse. Definitely an odd and unexpected pairing that should result in something very curious.
You can stream the track here, and read up more on it below.
Insane Clown Posse – Leck Mich Im Arsch by Third Man Records
From Third Man Records:
In the grand tradition of peanut butter meeting Iggy’s chest or Bing Crosby getting down with David Bowie, Third Man Records is ecstatic to present the latest in a long-line of unexpected musical pairings…Insane Clown Posse and Mozart.
Back in ’82, ahem, 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote a piece that’s been left out of the spotlight ever since. The title of the piece is “Leck Mich Im Arsch” or literally translated to English as “Lick me in the arse.” Understandably this piece has figuratively been swept under the rug. So who better to give this piece it’s due respect than the wildly successful, much misunderstood, and divisive Southwest Detroit rappers Insane Clown Posse?
With fellow Southwest Detroit-born Jack White at the production helm and musical backing by Nashville’s very own Jeff the Brotherhood, this 2011 version of “Leck Mich Im Arsch” marries Mozart’s melody (and lyrics sung in operatic German) with ICP’s poignant lyrical addition in English and Jeff the B’s monster-riffs, letting the whole thing tie together in the most beautiful of ways.
The b-side “Mountain Girl” finds Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope telling tall tales about a shotgun wedding, meth problems and moonshine…all pretty common-fare for a twangy country song birthed in Nashville.
The 7″ single and iTunes digital download of “Leck Mich Im Arsch” will be available for sale on September 13th. One-hundred Tri-color versions of the single will be available from the Third Man Rolling Record Store at the MI Fest in Brooklyn, Michigan on September 17th and another 50 Tri-colors will be randomly inserted into mail orders dispatched by Third Man Records.
6131 Records recently announced they have added Midland, Texas pop-punk/post-hardcore trio Ivy League to their roster. According to the label’s blog, the band will be issuing a new EP titled “Summer Sessions” at some point in the near future. For now, their previously released self-titled EP is streaming on Bandcamp. You can check it out below.
Doomtree Collective rapper Sims has released a free Lazerbeak produced EP called Wildlife via Bandcamp. You can stream or download the five song ep below.

The Front Bottoms
The Front Bottoms
Bar/None Records
Musically the only barrier between a listener’s enjoyment of The Front Bottoms self-titled album is if they enjoy acoustic based tunes. Seldom does a disc fall across my desk that can appeal to all sorts but this is one of the rare gems. Whether you’re a disciple of folk punk bands like Andrew Jackson Jihad or you regularly get down at OAR concerts the coalescing of groove of hyperactive guitar and drum interplay is going to make you smile.
In particular it’s easy to fall in love with Mathew Uychich’s near dance beats that make up the percussion portion of this remarkable duo. On a purely instrumental level The Front Bottoms are a joy that are hard to imagine leaving anyone with even a passing interest in their sound unsatisfied. However it’s the finer details, where The Front Bottoms set themselves apart from their peers and really start to shine, that problems might arise.
When news broke several weeks back that former Alexisonfire guitarist Wade MacNeill would be replacing Frank Carter as the new frontman for Gallows, some questions were raised as to how the noisy hardcore quintet would sound. While there are some similarities between MacNeill’s previous outfit (perhaps more so with his side-project Black Lungs), Carter’s hoarse growl and over the top persona doubtlessly left some large shoes for any successor to fill.
Any questions fans may have had as to what a MacNeill-fronted Gallows would sound like could be answered using a variety of adjectives, including “angry,” “angular,” and “abrasive.” You can hear for yourself by checking out “True Colours,” the first track the band has released with MacNeill on the mic, in the video posted below. It is also available via free download on the band’s website here.
Way back in 1999 in Coral Springs, FL a small pop-punk band put out their first album on local label Eulogy Recordings. That band was A New Found Glory and that album was Nothing Gold Can Stay. The album caught the attention of Drive-Thru Records who promptly signed them and re-released the album on CD and vinyl. The band dropped the “A” from the name and the rest is pretty much history and NFG became one of the biggest bands in the pop-punk genre.
That original vinyl version of Nothing Gold Can Stay has become a hot commodity to fans of the band and genre. Limited to 1,000, it quickly sold out and now fetches buku money on the collector market.
Thankfully we are now seeing a vinyl reissue of the record. We just found that it is being reissue by new label Company Ink Records. So new they have yet to set up a proper webpage and Facebook. The reissue will be lmited to 1,500 copies on Yellow Marble vinyl and housed in a single pocket diecut jacket much like the original pressing. The reissue is exclusive to Hot Topic so be on the lookout at the physical stores and online webstore soon.
As far as it is known, it has not been remastered or recut or re-anything. But it is still great to see it reissued (and be affordable) nonetheless.
