You know Abestos Records? That SKA-obsessed label we love that has done the “SKA Is Dead” 7″ series and also right now doing the second round of the he 3rd Wave SKA Preservation Society Vinyl Reissue Project (look here). Well, those crazy kids have just announced a new series of 7″ releases. Titled “Double Exposure”, the 7″ series will feature two artists on each record both covering the same band/artist. Sounds pretty neat right? It is!
For the first release of the series, or rather Volume 1, the 7″ will feature Franz Nicolay of The Hold Steady (among others) and Frank Turner covering English composer Sir Noël Peirce Coward.
Here’s the press release:
We’re kicking off our new Double Exposure 7″ series . The basic gist is this… 2 of our favorite artists on each record and both of them are covering the same band/artist. We’re super proud of the first installment which features two amazing musicians. On the A side is Franz Nicolay (of World Inferno/Friendship Society, The Hold Steady, Against Me!, and collaborator with Amanda Palmer & Leftover Crack etc etc etc) and on the B-side and across the pond is Frank Turner (you might remember him from Million Dead, and singing on the opening ceremonies for the Olympics). Franz & Frank chose to both deliver their own renditions of songs by English Playwrite/Singer/Actor/Composer Sir Noël Peirce Coward.
The record itself will be available at The Fest in Gainesville this October. But before you cry bloody murder, pre-orders have been put up online for those not attending The Fest. Head on over to Asbestos’ webstore right now. These things are selling fast…like hot cakes!
