Born June 5th, 1943 Davis, while not an original member of MC5 (Motor City 5) played on all three of the band’s full lengths including their cerebral and iconic debut full length Kick Out The Jams in 1969. Partaking in MC5‘s usual antics of on stage debauchery and on-the-record politics, Davis stood strong beside his band mates in the White Panther Party as well as the Trans Love Energies. The MC5 were feared by local authorities, promoters, social norms and even the FBI. Davis left MC5 in 1972 for Ann Arbor-based Destroy All Monsters.
Along with the likes of The Stooges, The MC5 are widely considered to be at the forefront of the proto-punk and punk rock movement. Davis’ influence on the artistic freedoms and integrity of musicians worldwide can never be understated.
