We’ve all heard our fair share of Ben Weasel stories, from him defending Sarah Palin, to him slagging off on other punk bands unprovoked, and even him deliberately calling his fans idiots. In what I’m calling his swan song, last night during Screeching Weasel‘s show at SXSW, Ben punched a female fan in the face after she spat beer at him.
Prior to the show, Ben was updating his Twitter with 140-word bursts of negativity along the likes of:
Gearing up to play the most depressing show of my life in the most joyless, soulless, shameful excuse of a music event in modern history.
and
[SXSW is] an industry circle jerk. Bands get paid peanuts and everyone else gets rich.
The show would prove to be even worse than Ben had originally imagined. You can see the video below, you know, if you’re into aging punks with a severely inflated sense of self worth punching girls.

One of my biggest regrets in life was not smashing the fuck out of Ben Weasel in 94. I lived with Dan Panic at the time and recorded their record in our basement, he never thanked me and complained the whole time, he actually attempted to kick me out of my own house while his shitty punk band was recording. He said some of the most ridiculous stuff to me like one day I was listening to the Buzzcocks or something and he said “I only listen to classical music and the Ramones”. How much of a dick do you have to be to even say something like that. I really do hope this is the end of this POS no talent hack. He should really try punching guys once and awhile. But he wont. Isnt the first time I have seen or heard him punch a girl either.

Eric, I’m interested in that as well. Of course anyone who is willing to be in Screeching Weasel these days knows they have to stand behind what Ben does, but it’ll be interesting to see how much of the lineup changes now.
